The department of the Drôme is beautifully situated between the Rhône valley to the west and the Prealps to the east. The most seductive areas of natural beauty are to be found close to the Rhône valley and in the southern part of the department. Characteristic of the Drôme are the splendid green landscapes with low soft hills and lush valleys. Vast fields of blooming fruit trees in white and rose-pink shades, lavender, olive orchards and famous vineyards paint this magnificent landscape.
The region also offers old castles, charming medieval villages with old stone houses, small winding streets and shady squares, an exciting kitchen, good wines and plenty of fresh air.
The beautiful surroundings make the department of the Drôme an obvious hit for a nature lover.
The department has more than 10,000 km of marked walking paths, enabling you to experience the Drôme’s many facets at every time of the year. Apart from walking and hiking, the Drôme offers a variety of other outdoor activities including cycling and mountain biking, horseback riding, climbing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, swimming, fishing, golfing, flying, winter sport, cave exploring etc.
Our houses in the Drôme are situated in and around the medieval town of Nyons, one of the main towns in the area.
Nyons is primarily well-known for its fertile soil, its very special luminosity and its mild climate with 300 sunny days a year.
The climate in the Drôme is very variable, depending on where in the department you are.
There are, roughly speaking, three different types of climate: North of Valence there is a temperate continental climate. In the Vercours and Diois there is a mountainous climate and south of Valence, there is a temperate coastal climate.
